Virat Kohli has yet again flopped with the bat, as he was dismissed for just one run by Ajaz Patel in the ongoing third and final Test between India and New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Chasing 147 runs, Team India is already three down for just 18 runs against the Kiwis.

Virat Kohli’s poor form continued in the ongoing third and final Test against New Zealand, as he was run out for just four runs in the first innings and now surrendered to Ajaz Patel after facing just seven deliveries on Day 3 of the final match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Virat Kohli fails again as Ajaz Patel dismisses him for 1 in Mumbai Test

Ajaz Patel sent the former Indian captain back to the pavilion with a sharp catch at slip by Daryl Mitchell. The right-handed batter briefly glanced at the pitch before leaving the field, frustrated by himself after another poor inning. The New Zealand spinner set him up beautifully, floating the ball in with subtle drift, tempting Kohli forward for a defensive stroke.

However, Kohli couldn’t fully reach the ball's line, and as he pushed forward, the delivery spun away just enough to catch the outer edge of his bat. Positioned perfectly at first slip, Daryl Mitchell took a sharp low catch to confirm Kohli’s exit at a score of 1 off 7 balls in the ongoing Mumbai Test.

After Kohli’s another poor display, fans have been heavily slamming the Indian batter on social media, calling him a ‘burden’ on the Indian cricket team. Some fans are calling for his dropping from the Test team.

Fans erupt in anger as Virat Kohli's flop show continues:

Notably, Virat Kohli’s five-run total in this match against New Zealand marked his lowest score across two innings in a Test match, while the 13 balls he faced at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai equaled his record for the fewest deliveries played in a Test where he batted in both innings.

Virat Kohli records worst average of his Test career

Not just the former Indian captain, all Indian batters struggled significantly against spin in the ongoing Test series against New Zealand on the home conditions. This series should be a wake-up call for the Indian cricket team management, and they need to improve their batting strategy on turning pitches as a humiliating whitewash on the card against the Kiwis.

Kohli has amassed only 93 runs with the highest score of 70 at an average of 15.50 in his last 6 innings in Test cricket. His 15.50 is the worst average of his Test career at home, where he has batted at least 6 innings. Given his ongoing lean patch, Kohli’s average has dipped below 48.00 from the high of 55.10 in October 2019 in Test cricket.

Reacting to Kohli’s struggle, Simon Doull said on JioCinema: “From when you've been at such a high level and and you have a little form slump or things just aren't quite working out you look for things within yourself. What am I doing wrong?

Do I need to change something? Are the eyes just slightly less as effective as they were five years ago when I was seeing everything like a pumpkin. They do grow on you as you get a little bit older. Rohit is in the same boat.”
