The legendary India National Cricket Team spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has launched an attack on the critics of the modern-day batting great Virat Kohli.

Ravichandran Ashwin showered rich praise on Virat Kohli following his heroics with the bat against the Pakistan National Cricket Team and slammed critics who were critical of him nicking the ball in the slips.

Virat Kohli smashes 51st ODI ton vs Pakistan

Kohli started off his ICC Champions Trophy 2025 campaign with a poor knock of 22 runs against Bangladesh where he was once again dismissed by a spinner.

However, Kohli showcased his true class in the following match against Pakistan and played a match-winning knock. He looked in full control while facing the Pakistan bowlers and with his cautious knock, steered the Men In Blue to a dominant 6-wicket victory.

Kohli batted deep and smashed a boundary to finish off the match and reach the three-figure mark. He looked elated after getting the job done and hitting his 51st ton in the history of ODI cricket, which is the most by any batter.

During his innings, he also went past the 14000-run mark and became the fastest to achieve the milestone. Kohli also became the first batter to score a century against Pakistan in the Asia Cup, World Cup, and Champions Trophy.

I never had any doubt about Virat’s quality - Ravichandran Ashwin

Speaking on his YouTube channel after Kohli's batting brilliance, Ravichandran Ashwin said that he had no doubts about the batter's quality and bashed his critics.

“I never had any doubt about Virat’s quality. When we were playing in Australia, people were criticizing that he was nicking the ball in the slips. People should understand that there was grass on the wicket and it was red ball cricket and he was nicking in Test match cricket.

"And there was so much talk over that. One gets out in the slips, one gets out clean bowled and one also is out as LBW. He was getting out in slips. Okay What is there in that? I don’t read massively into it," said Ashwin on his YouTube channel Ash ki Baat.

I always said Virat Kohli’s engine room is ODI cricket - Ravichandran Ashwin

Ashwin further said that Kohli's confidence will only increase with time and this is his second coming in ODI cricket.

"Virat’s class has not gone anywhere. I always said Virat Kohli’s engine room is ODI cricket. I am glad he is playing ODI cricket and this well could be his second coming. His confidence will only increase,” he added.

"We were saying prior to the match that it could be Virat Kohli’s game and I had a good gut feeling. What an absolute stellar knock by Virat Kohli. 51st ODI hundred and 14,000 runs in ODI cricket, 60-70 matches less than the previous best batsman. What more can I say? He is an amazing player,” said Ashwin
