Former England spinner Monty Panesar has backed Indian captain and legendary batsman, Virat Kohli, to repeat his heroics of 2018 when he returns to England for the ICC WTC final and a five-match Test series against the hosts in the upcoming English summer.

Team India will kickstart their English summer with the all-important World Test Championship final against New Zealand, which will take place in Southampton between June 18-22.

After the summit clash, the Indian team will stay back in England for a five-match rubber against Joe Root’s team, and once again all eyes will be on Virat Kohli.

Kohli has endured contrasting returns in his past two visits to England. The champion batsman experienced the worst phase of his career during the 2014 series where kept nicking off to James Anderson.

Virat Kohli managed a mere 134 runs across 10 innings but he scripted his redemption four years later as he finished as the leading run-scorer. In 10 innings, Virat Kohli managed 593 runs at an average of 59.3 which includes two centuries and a match-winning 97.

Kohli’s battle with James Anderson throughout that series was one for the ages and even the latter troubled him on multiple occasions,  the Indian skipper ensured that he did not get out to Anderson even once.

Speaking on the Virat Kohli-James Anderson duel, Monty Panesar said that battle will be intense and a treat to watch.

“Oh, it will be a treat to watch. Two greats of the game going against each other in the toughest format of the game. The battle will be intense.” Monty Panesar told India Today.

Panesar backed Virat Kohli to once again have a great series and possibly end up as the leading run-scorer.

“I believe Kohli will again have a great series and will end up the highest run-getter,” Panesar further added.
