Virender Sehwag accomplished a very tough job. The former opener, who loved to slay bowlers, especially spinners, had to adopt a defensive approach given the challenging situation.

The former cricketer Virender Sehwag was asked to choose the top-most moment in the Indian Premier League (IPL) history. The purpose of the video was to find out the top IPL moment through comparisons of multiple events.

What is the most iconic moment in IPL? Virender Sehwag reveals

The Cricbuzz video starts with the comparisons between Brendon McCullum’s iconic 158-run knock for the Kolkata Knight Riders and unbeaten 175 off 66 balls for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) against Pune Warriors India at Bengaluru.

In the middle of the challenge, there are some of the most key incidents in the league like Anil Kumble’s 5 for 5 in 2009 for RCB, Rinku Singh’s 5 sixes in 5 balls for the Kolkata Knight Riders, Virat Kohli’s 973 runs in the 2016 season, Punjab Kings’ masterful 262 run target chase against KKR in 2024, RCB's maiden trophy win and multiple other incidents also.

Rinku Singh’s 5 sixes in 5 balls incident dominated the video for a good amount of time, as Virender Sehwag believes that hitting five 6s under pressure and confirming a win was not easy. Rinku Singh famously hit five consecutive sixes in the final over of the KKR vs GT match in 2023 (April 9, 2023) to secure a last-ball victory.

Needing 29 runs off the last five balls, he hit Yash Dayal for back-to-back five maximums. Rinku confirmed the win for the Knight Riders and remained not out for 48 off 21 balls.

Virat Kohli's 973-run season was a class

But more than Rinku’s five consecutive 6s, the former batter broke Virat Kohli’s 973-run record in a single Indian Premier League season. Kohli’s 973 runs in the 2016 season are the highest single-season total in the history of the tournament. Playing for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), he played 16 matches with an average of 81.08 and a strike rate of 152.03. This stellar season was supported by four centuries and seven half-centuries.

But above all, Virender Sehwag put Punjab Kings’ 262 run chase against KKR as the top moment in the history of the league. PBKS chased down a huge target of 262 runs on April 26, 2024, against the Kolkata Knight Riders and won the match in style.

Punjab chased down the 262-run target with ease

Batting first, KKR scored 261 runs in 20 overs in exchange for 6 wickets. Phil Salt (75) and Sunil Narine (71) provided the team with a solid start for the opening stand. Later, Venkatesh Iyer, Shreyas Iyer, and Andre Russell played some impactful cameos. Shreyas Iyer was then KKR’s captain.

In 18.4 overs, Sam Curran-led Punjab chased down the target and won the match by 8 wickets. England opener Jonny Bairstow remained unbeaten for 108 off 48 balls. Prabhsimran Singh and Shashank Singh scripted half-centuries each to confirm a historic run chase in Twenty20 cricket.
