Sri Lanka won their first-ever T20I series and also their first bilateral series (across formats) against a Covid struck Indian team on their home turf.
And, one of the biggest reasons why they did that was Wanindu Hasaranga’s brilliant performances during which he created a web around the Indian batters.
Hasaranga claimed a total of 7 wickets in three T20Is at an average of 9.57 and an economy rate of 5.58.
He was at his brutal best in the series decider where he registered barely believable figures of 4/9 in four overs which completely broke the back of a hapless Indian batting unit as the visitors registered their third-lowest score (8/81) in T20I cricket.
Hasaranga was equally brilliant with the bat as he played crucial cameos on what were pretty sluggish tracks.
He was eventually named the ‘Player of the Series’ and since then there has been a buzz around the leg-spinner’s possible participation in the IPL shortly.
Hasaranga recently appeared on former pacer Lasith Malinga’s Youtube Channel where he claimed that as many as two IPL franchises have approached him since the Indian series.
“Two IPL teams have approached me after the series against India. Getting a chance to play in the IPL is a big deal and it’s my dream to feature in the IPL one day,” said Wanindu Hasaranga.
While Wanindu Hasaranga did not reveal exactly which IPL franchise has approached him, one of them could well be Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore, as there were some reports in the media a few days ago, claimed that the Bangalore-based franchise has approached the Sri Lankan leg-spinner.
