Wanindu Hasaranga Joins Pakistan Legend To Become Only 2nd Bowler To Take A Hat-Trick Of 5-Wicket Hauls In ODIs

Sri Lanka’s ace spinner Wanindu Hasaranga picked up his third consecutive ODI five-wicket haul in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers in Zimbabwe. Wanindu Hasaranga took five wickets against Ireland in their recent game at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo on Sunday, June 25.
Hasaranga took five wickets for 79 runs in his 10-over quota in the 15th game of the tournament. The Sri Lanka team hammered Ireland by 133 runs to confirm their berth in the Super Six stages of the tournament. The Dasun Shanaka-led team registered wins in their first two games of the series.

Wanindu Hasaranga Second Bowler To Achieve Milestone
Wanindu Hasaranga became the second bowler in the history of cricket to pick up five wickets in three consecutive ODI matches. Hasaranga equaled Pakistan legend Waqar Younis‘ 33-year-old record during their match against Ireland in the ongoing Qualifiers.
The 25-year-old picked up six wickets for 24 runs against the United Arab Emirates and five for 13 against Oman in their second match. Hasaranga registered the second-most expensive five-wicket haul in ODIs after Adil Rashid’s 5/85 haul against the West Indies in 2019.

Dimuth Karunaratne Smashed His Maiden ODI Hundred
Earlier, Ireland won the toss and opted to bowl first in the Group B match. Veteran opener Dimuth Karunaratne registered his maiden ODI hundred and helped the team reach a total of 325 runs. Karunaratne added a 168-run partnership with Sadeera Samarawickrama (82) for the third wicket.
In the run chase, Ireland were bundled out for just 192 runs in 31 overs. Curtis Campher was the top performer in Ireland’s batting line-up with 39 runs. Hasaranga picked up the wickets of captain Andy Balbirnie (12), Harry Tector (33) Delany (19), Adair (4), and Josh Little (20) in his 10 overs.
