Indian all-rounder Washington Sundar will play in the Ranji Trophy semi-final against Mumbai at the BKC, providing a significant boost for Tamil Nadu, as per the Indian Express.

Sundar recently played for India in the third T20I match against Afghanistan and he is also part of India’s squad for the fifth Test against England. After the selection in the Ranji Trophy semi-final match against Mumbai, the right-handed off-spin all-rounder is most likely to miss out on the fifth Test to be played in Dharamsala from March 7.

Washington Sundar has been one of those underrated players who has always showcased a decent performance whenever he has been given a chance. However, Sundar didn’t get a chance in the ongoing IND vs ENG Test series as the team was already filled with quality spinners such as Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Kuldeep Yadav.

The last year proved out to be a mixed year for Washington Sundar as a player. He was in and out of the white ball side but also had to miss half of the Indian Premier League due to a hamstring injury. Sundar had an exceptional debut in Test cricket when he scored a half-century in his debut Test match against Australia and played an important role in India’s historic Test win in Brisbane.

Washington Sundar will prove to be very essential for Tamil Nadu in the Ranji Trophy semi-final match against Mumbai. Sundar has been economical with the ball in the white ball cricket so far and can control the flow of runs. Sundar would be hoping to perform well for his team and help them reach the finals. Tamil Nadu have been able to win the Ranji Trophy twice, and the last time they did so was in the year 1988.

Tamil Nadu have showcased a brilliant performance in the ongoing edition of the Ranji Trophy and ended up topping the Elite Group C table with four wins from seven games and 1 loss. Two matches ended in a draw. Tamil Nadu defeated Saurashtra in the quarter-final match by an innings and 338 runs and have made a strong entry in the semi-final of the premium Indian domestic tournament.

Narayan Jagadeesan has been the top performer for Tamil Nadu with the bat and is amongst the top five run scorers of the team in the current edition of the tournament. Jagadeesan has scored 812 runs from eight games at an average of 90.22. His highest score has been 321, and has slammed 2 fifties and 1 hundred in the current edition of the tournament.

On the other hand, Sai Kishore is currently the leading wicket-taker in the current edition of the Ranji Trophy. Kishore has picked up 47 wickets from 14 innings and would hope to continue the same performance in the semi-final against Mumbai.

Mumbai on the other hand are the giants of the Ranji Trophy, they have won the title 41 times and would be looking forward to continuing their dominance by qualifying for yet another final.
