India all-rounder Washington Sundar opened up about Riyan Parag's message to him ahead of Johnathan Campbell's wicket in the third T20I against the Zimbabwe National Cricket Team. He said that he was delighted that he could execute that to remove the batter.
Washington Sundar was one of the main architects behind the win of the India National Cricket Team in the third T20I against Zimbabwe. The Shubman Gill-led won the match by 23 runs at the Harare Sports Club in Harare and took a 2-1 lead in the five-match T20I series.
Washington Sundar came up with a match-winning effort with the ball as he spun a web around the batters and tool wickets for his team at the crucial junctures of the game. He picked three wickets in the match and also won his first-ever Player of the Match award in international cricket.
Washington Sundar highlighted the wicket of Johnathan Campbell as he revealed that ahead of the ball Riyan Parag, who came in as a substitute fielder, told him that it would be great if he takes the catch. Speaking after that game, he said:
“Just before the ball, Riyan Parag told me that it would be great if he could get a catch because he had come in as a substitute. It was great for me to execute in that vein."
Washington Sundar bowled a tossed-up delivery to which Johnathan Campbell tried to drive through off-side. But he didn't get the proper connection as the ball caught the outside edge and the ball went straight to substitute fielder Riyan Parag at slip and the batter had to take the long walk back to the pavilion.
Washington Sundar apart from Jonathan Campbell removed Zimbabwe skipper Sikandar Raza and then came in the 17th over to remove Clive Madande who along with Dion Myers stitched a 77-run partnership. His spell turned out to be a game-changer as he returned with figures of 3/15.
I knew he was going to go big right from the first ball - Washington Sundar on Sikandar Raza's wicket
Washington Sundar talked about the wicket of Sikandar Raza and claimed that he was delighted with the wicket because the Zimbabwe skipper was going hard. He also admitted that the 77-run partnership put them under pressure. He elaborated:
"The first wicket was Sikandar Raza. I knew he was going to go big right from the first ball, and I am glad to have gotten him out. Even the last one, I really wanted to take it wide because I knew he was going to look big on the on-side.
"It did put a lot of pressure on us and we wanted to execute our plans the best we can to restrict them," he concluded.
Washington Sundar will be next seen in action when India take on Zimbabwe in the 4th game of the series. The match between the teams will be played on Saturday (13th July) at the Harare Sports Club in Harare.
