Pakistan’s ICC Champions Trophy 2025 campaign has ended in embarrassment, with the team crashing out of the tournament even before their final group-stage match against Bangladesh on February 27. Pakistan’s elimination from the tournament has triggered a wave of outrage, with legendary fast bowler Wasim Akram expressing his frustration with a shocking comparison.

Wasim Akram, visibly furious, didn’t hold back in his criticism as he made fun of the Pakistani players’ fitness and diet during the high-stakes ICC Champions Trophy 2025 clash against India. He compared their performance to an absolute disaster, highlighting a lack of discipline and preparation.

The former Pakistan captain even compared the Pakistan cricket team with the monkeys and even felt they were better than the players.

The entire Pakistan was left even more devastated when New Zealand thrashed Bangladesh to end the team’s hopes of making it to the knockout stage in humiliating fashion. India and New Zealand are set to play the semifinals from Group A.

Wasim Akram said on the DP World’s Post-Match Dressing Room show, “I think it was the first or second drinks break, and there was a plate full of bananas for the players. Itne kele toh bandar bhi nahi khaate (Even monkeys don't eat so many bananas). And it's their food. Had it been our captain Imran Khan, he would have given me a beating over it.”

With yet another failed campaign, questions are being raised about Pakistan’s approach, leadership, and overall mindset. And the legendary cricketer said that the Men in Green need drastic changes to come out of their archaic approach in the white-ball cricket.

Bring fearless cricketers into the team: Wasim Akram

Wasim Akram added, “Drastic steps are needed. We have been playing archaic cricket in white-ball for ages. This needs to change. Bring fearless cricketers, young blood, into the team. If you have to make five or six changes. Please make it. You keep losing for the next six months. It's fine, but start building a team for the World T20 2026 from now onwards.”

Meanwhile, Pakistan is hosting the major ICC event for the first time in 29 years, with the Champions Trophy 2025 marking a historic moment for the country since the 1996 ODI World Cup. However, Pakistan’s poor performance in the Champions Trophy 2025 has raised serious concerns about the team’s future.

PCB to take actions against Pakistan team after ICC Champions Trophy 2025

Fans and experts are expecting major changes, but for now, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is fully focused on ensuring the smooth and successful completion of the tournament. It is being said that any decisions regarding the team’s management, selection, or future plans will be addressed only after the Champions Trophy concludes next month.

A source was quoted as saying by PTI, “But, looking at the larger picture, which is the successful hosting of the Champions Trophy and to ensure it brings positive publicity for Pakistan cricket as a host nation, it has been decided to say nothing on the team's performance for now. As it is, even the board leadership realizes there is no excuse or defense that can be given for the team's abject failure in the event.”
