It was the turn of Australia opener Marcus Harris to be on the receiving end of Wasim Jaffer’s wit following his remarks on Cheteshwar Pujara’s knock on the final day of the historic Brisbane Test.

Marcus Harris, who featured in only the Gabba Test in the series, said Pujara “batted a bit like an Australian” in his gritty 211-ball innings for 56 runs while taking several body-blows from the Aussie pacers, but refused to give away his wicket, during the run-chase.

“The final day was amazing to watch. We were thinking the whole day if they would go for the runs or not. I think Rishabh played the best innings that day.

“But for Pujara to be copping an absolute barrage from everyone, it felt like he batted a bit like an Australian, taking everything on the chest and getting on with it. The rest of the team just batted around him,” Marcus Harris said on ‘Cricket Life Stories’ YouTube channel.

Former India opener Wasim Jaffer, who is now well-known for his funny takes on social media, trolled the Australian. He commented: ‘wonder why the Australians didn’t bat like Australians’.

Jaffer’s remark, although funny, indicates Australia’s batters’ deep struggles in the series as barring Marnus Labushcagne, and Steve Smith in the second half of the series, no other batsman really stood up against the Indian bowling, which got depleted match after match.

Marcus Harris, who is currently playing in the County Championship to stake a claim for a place in the Ashes squad, also heaped rich praises on Rishabh Pant‘s 89* that took India over the line in the run chase and sealed the series. The left-hander hailed Pant’s knock as ‘unbelievable’ and doffs his hat to the Indian team.

“Rishabh Pant’s innings was unbelievable. Everyone says he has magic in him, and he has showed that a few times now. It was disappointing to lose the series but sometimes in cricket you just have tip your hat and say they were too good for us,” the opener concluded.
