South African captain Aiden Markram showcased exceptional fielding skills during the Super Eight encounter against England in the ongoing ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024. Aiden Markram pulled off one of the best catches in the T20 World Cup 2024 to get rid of young England cricketer Harry Brook.
The South African team secured a narrow seven-run victory over England at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Gros Islet, in St Lucia on Friday, June 21. The Proteas successfully defended 163 runs to secure their second consecutive victory in the Super Eight stages of the marquee T20 tournament.
South Africa started strongly, reaching 80-0 in nine overs after opting to bat first. However, England's bowlers staged a brilliant comeback, restricting South Africa to 163-6. Leg-spinner Adil Rashid took one wicket for only 20 runs in four overs, while Reece Topley conceded just 23 runs in his full quota of overs.
In response, the Jos Buttler-led team lost four wickets for 61 runs on the board in 10.2 overs. However, Liam Livingstone (33 runs off 17 balls) and Harry Brook (53 runs off 37 balls) added a crucial partnership to revive England's hopes. The batting duo added 78 runs in 42 balls for the fifth wicket during the match.

England needed 14 runs off the last over to secure the victory in the match. Harry Brook attempted a lofted shot over mid-off against Anrich Nortje's bowling but mistimed it. Markram sprinted backward and took a diving catch to turn the game. Brook had to walk back to the dressing room after scoring 53 runs.

After Harry Brook's dismissal, Sam Curran and Jofra Archer couldn't score 14 runs off the last five balls. Curran and Archer managed to score six runs as South Africa clinched a seven-run victory. South Africa registered their sixth consecutive victory in the ongoing T20 World Cup in the USA and the West Indies.
Aiden Markram Just Took A Stunner - Quinton de Kock
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Quinton de Kock praised Aiden Markram for his role in South Africa's victory. De Kock stated that small moments contribute to winning matches, describing Markram's crucial catch to dismiss Harry Brook as a pivotal moment in the game.
"No, definitely not. I've played against enough of the England boys around the world. You get one of them get going. They're all match winners; they can win games from anywhere. Looked like Harry was well on the way to be doing that then obviously Aidan just took a stunner which was a big moment for us in the context of the game so yeah, I'm not saying that just the time we won it but just small moments," De Kock told the media.
The Aiden Markram-led team almost secured their semi-final berth with four points and a net run rate (NRR) of +0.625. The Proteas team will face the West Indies in their final Super 8 match at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua, on Sunday, June 23 (local time).
