UP Warriorz skipper Alyssa Healy stole the limelight with her antics during the Women’s Premier League (WPL) game against Mumbai Indians women. The match between the two teams took place on Wednesday (29th February) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
UP Warrioz displayed a sensational performance with bat and ball in the game and made sure that Mumbai Indians suffered their first defeat of the season. While Kiran Navgire and Grace Harris earned much applause for their performances, skipper Alyssa Healy overshadowed them with her antics.
Just ahead of the last ball of Anjali Sarvani’s over, which was also the last ball of the Mumbai Indians innings, the incident unfolded. As the new batter walled out to bat to face the ball, a man from the stands ran onto the pitch and the play stopped for some time.
Alyssa Healy however, tried to get rid of the pitch invader in her way. The UP Warrioz skipper was tackling the invader to the ground before officials escorted him off the field. It caught the attention of many because this was something that no one expected.

After she gave a brutal tackle, Australian media correlated her with late all-rounder Andrew Symonds and Australian women’s football icon Sam Kerr. The duo also used to deal with pitch invaders similarly during their playing days.
Alyssa Healy played a decent role with the bat for her team. In the chase of 172 runs, she made sure that her team got off to a valiant start. The skipper played a decent hand of 33 runs at the top of 29 balls. She also slammed 5 fours in her innings and added 94 runs opening stand with Kiran Navgire.
Kiran and Grace Harris were the main architects behind the win. While the opening batter slammed 57 runs off 31 balls, Harris remained unbeaten at 38 runs off 17 balls. Deepti Sharma (27*) in the end played a vital hand as UP Warriors completed a comfortable 7-wicket win.
“Over the moon to get ourselves on the board”- Alyssa Healy on the win over Mumbai Indians women
Alyssa Healy talked about her team’s performance after a 7-wicket win over Mumbai Indians. She said that she was over the moon after registering her first win of the season. She opened up about how Kiran Navgire convinced her to open the innings. The UP skipper also said that she is proud of the way how her team played.
“Over the moon to get ourselves on the board, to beat a quality side like Mumbai The girls bounced back after a disappointing last night. Apparently Kiran went to the boss last night and asked if she can open, she wants to open. [on whether Navgire would have opened if not for Vrinda’s injury] Probably not but things happen for a reason. To be fair they got 25 more on us, we gave away too many on the field and we let it slip.
“But the batters got the job done, the bowlers have been keeping us in the game. It’s one-dimensional but they all have different styles, we have got seam on the bench if need be. [on the celebrations tonight] With cake – that’s how we do it in India. Sophie Ecclestone is really excited about the cake. Proud of the girls they came back hard, good to get on the board but still a lot of work to do,” she concluded.
