Hitting a ball out of the ground for a monstrous six is one of the biggest joys that a batsman can experience on a cricket field.
But, unfortunately, that was not the case with Asif Ali whose recent attempt went horribly wrong, leaving him on his knees and face in hands as others burst out in laughter.
It all happened during the Halifax League Crossley Shield Quarter-Final on Sunday when Asig Ali of St. Mary’s Cricket Club, in a game against Sowerby’s St Peter’s, lofted one into the parking zone for a six.
What should have been a moment of happiness for Asif Ali soon turned into abject despair as he realized that the ball has smashed the rear windscreen of his own car.
According to Yorkshire Evening Post, Ali was left ”devastated afterwards, but could see the funny side of it all,”
The incident is a good reminder of the time when former New Zealand swashbuckling opener Jesse Ryder dented veteran commentator Ian Smith’s rental car during a cricket match.
”That’s out of the ground, that’s gone, it’s downtown,” Ian Smith said Ryder smashed the ball in the air. ”It’s on my car! It is! I think it hit my car! Oh, the downside of getting a park so close! Oh, no.”
