Dewald Brevis Controversy

Dewald Brevis lost his wicket in a controversial manner during the match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Chennai Super Kings at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday (May 3).

The South African youngster walked out to bat in the 17th over of the innings when Lungi Ngidi was bowling. On the second ball of the over, Ngidi had dismissed a well-set Ayush Mhatre for 94 runs. And on the very following delivery, the South African pacer got the wicket of Dewald Brevis for a golden duck.

Even before the right-handed batsman could open his account, he was given out lbw by on-field umpire Nitin Menon. However, the dismissal turned into a big controversy as Dewald Brevis did not get the chance to review the umpire's decision.

As soon as the umpire adjudged him out, the CSK batsman and his partner Ravindra Jadeja were seen having a discussion before the former signaled for the review. However, Menon asked Brevis to leave the field as he had run out of time to review the decision.

There was no timer shown on the screen and it cost Brevis his wicket. Jadeja was seen having an animated discussion with the umpire, but Brevis had to eventually leave the field. The replays then showed that Dewald Brevis would have survived had he managed to review the umpire's decision.

It was a high full-toss from Ngidi, and Brevis wanted to flick it. However, the CSK star could not make any contact with the ball and was rapped on the pads. While Menon adjudged Brevis out, the replays showed that the ball was missing stumps.

Chasing 214 runs, CSK needed 15 runs off the final over bowled by Yash Dayal. However, the left-arm pacer held his nerves and conceded only 12 runs to power his team to a thrilling victory.
