The second match of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL 2024) turned out to be a thriller as Guyana Amazon Warriors sealed a thrilling last-ball win over Antigua and Barbuda Falcons.

South Africa allrounder Dwaine Pretorius starred for the Amazon Warriors with some serious death overs hitting under pressure. With 4 needed off the last ball to win, Pretorius smashed left-arm quick Mohammad Amir for a six over extra cover to seal the deal.

Amir went for the wide yorker but it went wrong and ended up being a slot ball outside off. Dwaine Pretorius held his shape, went down on one knee, and went through the line to hit the ball over the long off-fielder for a brilliant six to win the game for Guyana Amazon Warriors.

Dwaine Pretorius remained unbeaten on 20 off 10 balls, which included 3 fours and 1 six off the last ball of the match. With this win, the defending champions are off to a rollicking start this season. The win will boost their confidence ahead of the upcoming matches.

Antigua and Barbuda Falcons lose second consecutive game

Earlier, Guyana Amazon Warriors won the toss and elected to field first. Antigua and Barbuda Falcons were rocked early with the wicket of Teddy Bishop but Fakhar Zaman and Kofi James stitched a good partnership to bring the innings back on track.

Zaman scored a useful 40 off 33 balls while Kofi James smashed 37 off 24 balls. The middle order could not add much to the score but Imad Wasim played a brilliant cameo in the end to take the Falcons to 168-6.

Wasim smashed 40 off 21 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes. Gudakesh Motie was the pick of the bowlers for Amazon Warriors with 3-25 in four overs.

Chasing a tricky target, Guyana started poorly as the move to send Gudakesh Motie to the opening position did not work. After hitting an early six, Motie was bowled by Cameron Green. Gurbaz started well but was dismissed for a fiery 20.

Shai Hope tried to anchor the innings but he fell for a 34-ball-41. At that time, it seemed like the Amazon Warriors would go on to lose the match. But Romario Shepherd and Dwaine Pretorius had other ideas. Shepherd smashed 4 sixes for his 32 off 16 balls.

However, the allrounder was dismissed with 22 still needed for a win. But Dwaine Pretorius kept his calm and took the game right till the end to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir, who bowled the last over of the match, had a poor day as he finished with 0-39 in four overs.

This was the second successive defeat for the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons after they had also lost the opening match of the tournament to St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots. That game was also a thriller as the Patriots had clinched a last-ball win.
