With a promising day of cricket overshadowed due to rain, the Indian cricketers resorted to recreation. The fans had prepared themselves for an exciting first day of the ICC Test Championship final between India and New Zealand in Southampton, it went the opposite way. No play and not even the toss was possible at the Ageas Bowl on Friday; thus, the Indian cricketers played darts to have fun. Players, including Ravichandran Ashwin and Wriddhiman Saha, played the same.
Until Friday, Southampton was brimming with sunshine and brightness. England had already copped criticism as it’s known for its notorious and unpredictable spells of heavy rain. The fans had to endure the same ahead of the inaugural Test Championship final at the Ageas Bowl. The showers did stop momentarily; however, it restarted. Thus, the officials had no choice but to call off the first day’s play.
The World Test Championship final has a reserve day in place which would have 83 overs, alongside an extra hour. However, with the volume of rain on the cards over the next few days, it’s unsure whether even an extra day would be enough to force a result. The play could begin at 10:30 AM local time (03:00 PM IST) on Saturday, depending upon the weather.
Below is the video of the Indian cricketers enjoying a game of darts:
