Veteran England left-arm spinner Jack Leach took an exceptional catch during the match between Lancashire and Somerset in the England Domestic One-Day Cup 2024. Jack Leach took a running catch to dismiss Lancashire lower-order batter Mitchell Stanley during the recent One-Day Cup 2024 match.

Somerset defeated Lancashire by eight wickets in Taunton on Friday, August 2. Kasey Aldridge took six wickets for 33 runs to restrict Lancashire to 218 runs in 49.1 overs. George Thomas scored an unbeaten 106 runs off 142 balls to guide Somerset to victory. Somerset reached the target in just 40.5 overs.

During the fifth ball of the 41st over, Mitchell Stanley attempted a big shot off Kasey Aldridge. Stanley mistimed the shot, and the ball went into the air. Jack Leach ran from mid-off and dived full length to complete the catch while teammates converged. Stanley was dismissed for a six-ball duck on his List A debut.

Jack Leach last played for England during the first Test of the five-match series against India, where his team suffered a 4-1 loss in challenging conditions. The left-arm spinner missed the four Test matches due to an injury. However, he was not considered for the recent home series against the West Indies.

The 33-year-old has taken 126 wickets in 35 Test matches at an average of 34.4 and a strike rate of 68.17. Leach has bagged five five-wicket hauls in an innings during his career. The team management confirmed that they wanted to groom young off-spinner Shoaib Bashir for the next Ashes series in Australia.

Somerset Register Comfortable Victory Over Lancashire

Talking about the match, the visiting team was all out for a below-par total of 218 runs after losing the toss. Chris Green scored 65 runs off 68 balls, and opener George Bell added 56 runs off 81 balls. Somerset's seamer Kasey Aldridge recorded career-best figures of 6 for 33 in his 7.1 overs during the recent match.

Somerset chased down the target with more than nine overs to spare and eight wickets in hand. They lost the wicket of opener Andrew Umeed during the second over. George Thomas added partnerships with Lewis Goldsworthy (38) and James Rew (60 not out) to help register the victory in their fourth match.

Somerset secured their third win in four Group A games with an eight-wicket triumph over Lancashire at the Cooper Associates County Ground in Taunton. Lancashire suffered its fourth consecutive defeat in the group stage.
