In a worrying moment for the Indian cricket team, captain and premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah has suffered an injury on Day 2 of the ongoing fifth and final Test against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) in Sydney on Saturday (January 4).
The star Indian pacer has left the field multiple times and bowled only one over after lunch before returning to the dressing room for treatment. He was off the field for more than half an hour in the ongoing New Year’s Test against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) in Sydney.

The Indian skipper bowled only one over at the start of the session before leaving the field and has not returned since. It is also confirmed that Jasprit Bumrah underwent a scan in a hospital in Sydney. There is officially no update on Bumrah, but India is currently without their captain at the SCG.
Any injury to Bumrah could be a major setback for the Indian cricket team, as they are aiming to save the New Year’s Test to level the ongoing five-match Test series and retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Australia. Notably, Sarfaraz Khan stepped up as a substitute fielder for Bumrah.

The injury scare for India emerged after the 31st over when Bumrah left the field, and he was later replaced by Mohammed Siraj. The tourists are presently without Bumrah, but the others are stepping up with Nitish Kumar Reddy and Prasidh Krishna taking two wickets each.
Live visuals from the official broadcasters showed Bumrah leaving the stadium in his training kit, accompanied by two support staff members, for a scan.

We just had a feeling he wasn’t well: Ravi Shastri on Jasprit Bumrah
Ravi Shastri said on Fox Cricket's broadcast: “He is going to see some doctors, get scans… we will know more in a little while. We just had a feeling he wasn’t well. This could have a massive bearing on the series.” In his absence, Virat Kohli is leading the Indian team in the Sydney Test.
Unfortunately, extreme workload has taken a toll on Jasprit Bumrah, who has been India’s only consistent bowler in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 against Australia. The Indian pacer has probably bowled more than other bowlers from the Indian team Down Under.

Bumrah has so far picked two wickets in his 10 overs in the ongoing New Year’s Test. Overall, he has picked 32 wickets in the ongoing Test series. Speaking about the match, Australia is still trailing by 10 runs, and India needs one wicket to end the hosts’ innings in the ongoing fifth and final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.
These antics don't look nice: Rohit Sharma on Sam Konstas
Prasidh Krishna is leading the way in Bumrah’s absence, taking three quick wickets at the SCG. Earlier, Rohit Sharma had slammed Sam Konstas for unnecessarily poking Jasprit Bumrah in the final session of the ongoing Sydney Test.
Reacting to the heated moment, Rohit told the broadcaster, “Our boys are silent only till a particular time. If you are going to poke them, then they will retaliate. We all are here to play cricket. Please don't do such nonsense. These antics don't look nice. Our boys are very classy. We only focus on the given task and nothing else. It was important for us to scalp one or two wickets at that moment, in order to keep the pressure on Australia.”
