ICC Chairman Jay Shah attended the first semifinal of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 between India and Australia at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday, March 4. In a viral video, Jay Shah was seen celebrating from the stands after Alex Carey was run out following a direct hit from Shreyas Iyer.
India, led by Rohit Sharma, successfully chased down 265 runs in 48.1 overs. The Men in Blue secured a berth in the Champions Trophy final for the third consecutive time. They took revenge for the 2023 ODI World Cup final, where India suffered a disappointing loss to Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

Australia won the toss and elected to bat first in the semifinal. Captain Steve Smith scored 73 runs off 96 balls, while Alex Carey contributed a quick 61 runs off 57 deliveries. Australia were bowled out for 264 in 49.3 overs, failing to capitalize on their solid starts. At one stage, they looked set to score 300 runs.
On the first ball of the 48th over, Carey attempted a risky second run after mistiming a pull shot off Hardik Pandya’s slower delivery. Shreyas Iyer charged in from deep square leg and collected it cleanly. Iyer fired a pinpoint throw at the wicketkeeper’s end, but Carey, who did not dive, was short of his crease.
After Iyer’s direct hit led to Alex Carey’s run-out, Jay Shah was seen celebrating from the stands. A video capturing his animated reaction after Australia lost their eighth wicket has gone viral on the internet.

Alex Carey scored his second consecutive half-century in the 2025 Champions Trophy. Before getting dismissed, he struck eight fours and one six.
Earlier in the tournament, Carey had played a vital innings against England in Lahore on February 22. The left-handed batter scored 69 runs off 63 balls. He formed a match-defining 146-run partnership for the fifth wicket with Josh Inglis, who remained unbeaten on 120.
ICC Champions Trophy 2025 Final to Be Played on Sunday, March 9
The final of the Champions Trophy will take place at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday, March 9. India will face the winner of the second semifinal between New Zealand and South Africa, which is currently taking place at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Wednesday, March 5.
India previously played against New Zealand in the 2000 Champions Trophy final and faced South Africa in the 2024 T20 World Cup final in Bridgetown on June 29. If India emerge victorious on Sunday, they will become the first team to win three Champions Trophy titles.
