Kolkata Knight Riders and West Indian stars Andre Russell and Sunil Narine have landed in India ahead of IPL 2021, set to begin from the 9th of April. Kolkata Knight Riders took to its official Twitter handle and posted a clip of Sunil Narine and Andre Russell arriving via an SUV to the hotel. Both will serve the mandatory quarantine period before joining the team in the bio-bubble. Kolkata Knight Riders begin their campaign against the SunRisers Hyderabad on the 11th of April in Chennai.
Sunil Narine and Andre Russell have been Kolkata Knight Riders’ bedrock in the last few years, playing defining roles with both bat and ball. Narine won the player of the tournament award in 2012 and 2018, while Andre Russell earned it in 2019. Nevertheless, both the star players did not have an encouraging outing last year in the UAE. Russell managed 117 runs in ten matches and picked up six wickets, while Narine made 121 runs in as many fixtures and took five scalps.
Kolkata Knight Riders’ official Twitter handle posted a caption as “The moment you’ve all been waiting for…The 2018 and 2019 MVP’s are in the house! #ToofaniFans, excited to get this party started?” The two-time champions finished the 2020 edition in the fifth spot and missed a playoff position narrowly.

Andre Russell and Sunil Narine share messages for their fans:
Sunil Narine stated that whenever people think about IPL, it is India; hence, it’s incredible to be back. The Trinidad & Tobago cricketer hopes for the Knight Riders to fare better than last year. “Whenever you think about the IPL, you think about India, so it’s great to be back. Hopefully we can have a better season than last year” Narine said as quoted by India Today.
On the other hand, Andre Russell reminded that this year, they are closer to the fans, regardless of whether they watch from the stands or their homes. The seam-bowling all-rounder stated they are determined to do well since they are aware of the bio-bubble situation and prepared in their minds.
“We are closer to you guys now, so… the games are in India. So whether you guys are watching from home or from the stands, we’ll be representing purple and gold. Now is the time that we are going to do our best, because we know the bio-bubble. We’re used to this situation. Our mindset is already planned for this,” Russell stated.
