New Zealand star Mark Chapman made his presence felt in the ongoing Lankan Premier League (LPL) 2024. He came up with a spectacular effort on the field during the game between the Dambulla Sixers and the Colombo Strikers on Thursday (16th July).

During the final game of the league stage between Dambulla Sixers against the Colombo Strikers, Muhammad Waseem, who was playing for Colombo, was playing aggressively and took the pacer Nuwan Pradeep to cleaners and kept his team in the hunt in the chase of 124 runs.

Muhammad Waseem slammed Nuwan Pradeep for two boundaries and a maximum in the first four balls of the second over. It seemed that he would continue going after the bowler but the pacer made a strong comeback and went to remove the batter. But the credit for that goes to Mark Chapman.

On the fifth ball of the over, Nuwan Pradeep bowled a delivery that was angling into off-stump. But Muhammad Waseem didn't get the proper connection as he tried to go over mid-on. But it was Mark Chapman, who came up with a Superman effort at mid-on.

Mark Chapman ran to his right put in a dive to perfection and took the stupendous catch with both hands to send the batter packing. With his wicket, Colombo Strikers lost their second wicket in the chase quickly and were left tottering at 16/2.

Here's the video:

After that Nuwan Pradeep didn't look back as he went on to pick wickets at regular intervals and put pressure on the opposition. After the wicket of Muhammad Waseem, who scored 15 runs, Colombo Strikers lost wickets in quick succession of time and were left tottering at 88/9.

Skipper Thisara Perera played a knock of 30 runs to keep his team in the hunt. But couldn't carry on as Colombo Strikers got all out for 95 runs and lost the game by the margin of 28 runs.

We tried our best to put a big score - Mohammad Nabi

Dambulla Sixers skipper Mohammad Nabi, who also won Player of the Match, for his 40-run knock, talked about his innings and admitted that it was a tricky pitch to bat on. He mentioned that they tried their best to put big score and also talked about his plans while batting. Speaking after the game, he explained:

"It's a tough game and also a tricky pitch. We tried our best to put up a big score but early wickets damaged us. Had I played the last four overs, would have been a different situation. Was waiting for the bad ball today. Just play simple cricket, watch the ball and when the legspinner is bowling watch the googly and flipper.

"Only Googly and Flipper are tough to play on this pitch. In the huddle, we spoke about defending 47 and tried to bowl stump to stump. A lovely tournament, I enjoyed it as a captain, unfortunately we couldn't qualify. Great tournament and I really enjoyed it."
