Now and then, Ramiz Raja comes up with a different that puts him in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. Time and again, one has seen the former Pakistan batter becoming the butt of all jokes for his comments on air.
And he was the object of ridicule once again when a few former Pakistan cricketers were involved in a discussion over Pakistan cricket. Former cricketers such as Wasim Akram, Misbah-ul-Haq, and Mohammad Hafeez could not stop themselves from laughing when Azhar Ali revealed a suggestion from Ramiz Raja when he was the chief of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Azhar revealed that Ramiz Raja asked the Pakistan team management to include T20 players in the Test team. The former Pakistan captain stated that the ex-PCB chief wanted the T20 players in the Test team because two T20 World Cups were to be played in consecutive years.
“He said ‘we should play our T20 players in the Test team’,” Azhar said on A Sports.
Akram was quick to interrupt as he sarcastically asked him: “Who was this genius?”
“He was Ramiz bhai (Ramiz Raja). He said it in a couple of interviews,” said Azhar, leaving others in splits.

Ramiz Raja’s career in cricket:
Ramiz Raja served as the PCB chief for one year before being sacked in 2022. While he was appointed with a three-year contract, he could not complete his tenure. After his sacking, he had alleged political interference. He was replaced by Najam Sethi who was later replaced by Zaka Ashraf. At present, Mohsin Naqvi is the PCB chief.
“It’s frustrating when you are told to step aside after 12 months when you were given a term of three years. I would say it’s political interference because you want to recruit someone politically. It will not help cricket and it won’t help with the [lack of] continuity,” Ramiz Raja had said after being sacked.
As a player, he represented Pakistan in 57 Tests and 198 ODIs, scoring over 8000 runs with the help of 11 centuries and 53 half-centuries.
