Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni had a terrible outing with the bat during the ongoing game against Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai is hosting the game between the two teams.

MS Dhoni, who is leading the Chennai Super Kings for the first time after 2023, couldn't make a great impact on his comeback as a captain. The keeper-batter walked out to bat at nine when the team lost impact player Deepak Hooda in the 15th over.

With the team struggling at 72 for seven, it was expected that MS Dhoni would lead from the front and take his team to a fighting total. But that wasn't the case as just like the other batters, he was back in the hut early as Kolkata Knight Riders spinners tested him big time.

MS Dhoni was caught plumb by Sunil Narine

MS Dhoni perished to Sunil Narine in the 16th over as the mystery spinner bowled a fullish off-break on-off. The CSK skipper shuffled across and plonked his front foot forward and across on the off-stump. He missed the flick, and the ball went on to hit him on the pads.

MS Dhoni immediately went for DRS and showed his bat to the umpire. But there emerged murmurs on UltraEdge when the ball was next to the bat. However, there seemed to be a gap between the bat and the ball as well. The third ump took multiple looks at it and made the decision that there was no bat involved, terming the keeper-batter out.

What caught the attention of many was the reaction of MS Dhoni. The CSK skipper was extremely furious at the umpire. Ravindra Jadeja's wife, who was in the stands, looked absolutely shocked after the umpire's decision.

Chennai Super Kings posted 103 for nine against KKR

With the wicket of MS Dhoni, Chennai Super Kings lost their 8th wicket for just 75 runs. With the team under pressure, Shivam Dube (31*) played a fighting hand and took Chennai Super Kings past 100 runs as they posted 103 for nine on the board.

For Kolkata Knight Riders, Sunil Narine picked three wickets. Apart from him, Harshit Rana and Varun Chakravarthy bagged two scalps each while Moeen Ali and Vaibhav Arora were also amongst the wickets.

Harshit Rana talked about his performance with the ball, saying that their focus was to execute the plans. He stressed that they assessed the wicket quickly and then made the changes accordingly. He also took a funny dig at Sunil Narine and Venkatesh Iyer for dropping catches. Speaking to broadcasters, he said:

"The focus was to execute the plans. We assessed what the wicket was doing and made the bowling changes accordingly. The wicket is like when you bowl around the 5-6 meter length then it is difficult for the batters to hit.

"It is part of the game, I will ask Venky (Iyer) Bhai for dinner and Narine as well (for the dropped catches). The ball is stopping and we need to take the game (chase) deep."
