Coming to the final Test between England and Sri Lanka, the hosts have a lead of over 60 runs in the first innings. Asked to bat, the Ollie Pope-led side posted a total of 325 runs on the board. Skipper played a sensational innings of 154 runs while Ben Duckett also came up with a vital effort of 84 runs.
In reply, Sri Lanka kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Opener Pathum Nissanka at the top played an innings of 64 runs off 51 balls. With the team tumbling at 93/5, skipper Dhananjaya de Silva (69) and the in-form Kamindu Mendis (64) frustrated England with an unbroken century partnership on the second day helping the team post 263 runs.
England now would want to take a big lead in the second innings and completely take the game away from opposition. They have won the last two games and would be keen to complete a whitewash.
Nasser Hussain ahead of the day's play also came up with a heartfelt message for Moeen Ali, who retired from international cricket. He backed him as the most influential multi-format cricketer. While highlighting his shot-making ability, he said that he enjoyed watching the all-rounder play. Speaking to Sky Sports, he explained:
"He is a hugely important and inspirational cricketer on and off the cricket field. One of England's most influential multi-format cricketers. An Ashes winner, a World Cup 50-over winner, and a World Cup 20-over winner.
"He said he has had the odd brain fade. He has played some good shots and some not-so-goodshots. I think anyone who watched him play enjoyed it but also those who played with him enjoyed it.
"You can imagine his WhatsApp this morning going berserk because he was a very popular member of any side he has played in," he concluded.
