Galle Marvels skipper Niroshan Dickwella made a hilarious blunder during Qualifier 1 of the Lankan Premier League (LPL) 2024 against Jaffna Kings. The match between the two teams took place on Thursday (18th July) at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
Galle Marvels skipper Niroshan Dickwella didn't have a great outing with the bat in Qualifier 1 of the tournament against Jaffna Kings. However, he has only himself to blame for the way he got out. The keeper-batter got himself out as his team lost an early wicket in the high-pressure game.
After Jaffna Kings posted a total of 177 runs on the board, Alex Hales and Niroshan Dickwella started aggressively in the chase. They added 29 runs together within a flash and with the way they were batting, it seemed that they would put a big partnership on the board. But that wasn't the case as the left-hander got out cheaply.
During the second ball of the third over, Azmatullah Omarzai bowled a delivery to which Niroshan Dickwella went for the lap shot and missed. The bowler as well as the keeper-batter Kusal Mendis immediately started to appeal as they were confident that Galle Marvels' skipper had nicked it.
The umpire, however, wasn't interested and termed it not out. But what caught the attention of many was Niroshan Dickwella went for the review as he felt that the umpire had given out. But the review was not considered and then Omarzai asked Mendis to go for the review, which revealed that the batter had gloved it straight behind the wicket.
Here's the video:
While batting, Dickwella reviewed a caught-behind decision after the ball thudded into his glove, even though the umpire had ruled it NOTOUT. This has to be the first instance of a batsman reviewing against themselves in a competitive cricket match 😂😂 p<!---->i<!---->c<!---->.<!---->t<!---->w<!---->i<!---->t<!---->t<!---->e<!---->r<!---->.<!---->c<!---->o<!---->m<!---->/<!---->t<!---->1<!---->I<!---->b<!---->5<!---->4<!---->C<!---->c<!---->Z<!---->R

Niroshan Dickwella scored just 9 runs off 4 balls with the help of two fours. But thankfully his wicket didn't cost the team much. After that, Alex Hales (36) played a valiant hand at the top. But the real blitz came from the bat of Tim Seifert and Janith Liyanage.
The duo slammed half-centuries and added 92 runs for the third wicket. Their sensational performance with the bat saw Galle Marvels chasing the target within 18.1 overs. They will now be taking on Jaffna Kings in the final as they defeated Kandy Falcons in the Qualifier 2.
I thought I was given OUT caught behind, I didn't see the umpire - Niroshan Dickwella on his dismissal
Niroshan Dickwella talked about the win over the Jaffna Kings and expressed his delight in the way his team played. He also talked about his dismissal, saying that he didn't notice the umpire gave him not out and hence he went for the DRS. Speaking to broadcasters, he explained:
"Very happy with the way it's going so far. We have been outstanding, have played some really good cricket and there's healthy competition for places in the final XI, that shows what a good team we have. Wanted to give Janith Liyanage a chance at 4, he has been batting well lower down the order.
"Bhanuka loves to bat at 5 and so we thought about promoting him. I thought I was given OUT caught behind, I didn't see the umpire and saw that they were celebrating, I felt it hit my arm and that's why I went for the review," he concluded.
