West Indian players are top-tier artists if Twenty20 cricket is considered art. The guys from the Caribbean islands have often demonstrated their ability to excel in the game’s shortest version. Odean Smith provided another excellent example of the same in the current Caribbean Premier League (CPL) by slamming five sixes in a single over.
In the 25th game of the Caribbean Premier League on Wednesday, Guyana Amazon Warriors played Jamaica Tallawahs. Known for his power-hitting, Odean scored 42 runs in just 16 balls.
Odean Smith Goes Bonkers
Odean Smith decided to shoulder the responsibility of pushing the team’s total above the 170-run threshold in the 18th over of the innings. He struck five sixes in the over that allowed a total of 31 runs to be scored as he thrashed Migael Pretorius all over the field.
Here’s the video of the over:

Even the great Ian Bishop hailed Smith for his fireworks. He tweeted: “That was some ball striking by Odean Smith and Keemo Paul tonight for the @GYAmazonWarrior. A little glimpse into what so many of us here in the Caribbean hope to see more of in international cricket.”

Smith’s blitzkrieg enabled the Guyana Amazon Warriors to score 74 runs in the final three overs. Rovman Powell ultimately got Smith out for 42 runs.
Following the game, Odean Smith commented on his performance, saying: “I went out there and I knew what I had to do. The wicket was very very good. Just stood my ground, kept my base and hit the ball. We were trying to get 160, very good that we got to 168. It came down really close.
We didn’t get the start we wanted, I knew I hand to stand up and hit the ball. Lot of tension, I started the over and the first ball went for a six. I told the boys to remain calm. I have bowled overs like this in the past, haven’t gone my way but I have learnt from them.
Keep believing and keep supporting us. Hopefully with the fans, we can win the remaining three games. That was a very good century (from Brandon King). The wicket was really good.”
The Warriors bowled out the Tallawahs for 166 runs while defending the score of 178 runs. Brandon King, who scored 104 runs off of just 66 balls, was the game’s leading scorer. However, he received no assistance from any batters. None of the other Tallawahs squad members even reached the 20-run threshold.
