Australia captain Pat Cummins showed great compassion and leadership as he called back Usman Khawaja into the group photo and asked the team to hold the booze shower back. Khawaja is a practicing Muslim and alcohol is one of the few things prohibited in Islam, hence he bailed out knowing that his teammates will open champagne bottles to celebrate the Ashes 2021-22 win.
The Kangaroos decimated England in the fifth and final Test match which was a D/N affair in Hobart and pocketed the series 4-0. The only saving grace for the visitors was that they had barely managed to draw the fourth Test match in Sydney with just one wicket to spare.
Despite Cummins missing the second game of the series in Adelaide after coming in close contact with a COVID-19 positive person, Australia won the first three games of the series comfortably to seal a series win.

Not only did Cummins show great leadership qualities on the field but also showed compassion towards his teammates, especially Usman Khawaja. It was after the culmination of the fifth Test that Cummins won the hearts of the cricket community with a heartwarming gesture towards Usman Khawaja in the trophy celebration.
As the Australians were handed the trophy, their players were ready to burst open champagne bottles but Cummins signaled them to keep their bottles away and told Usman Khawaja to rejoin the group, keeping his religious sensibilities in mind.

Khawaja made a memorable comeback to Australia’s Test team after three years during the fourth match of the series at the Sydney Cricket Ground by scoring a century in both innings. He was then accommodated as an opener for the fifth Test match, as Travis Head returned from missing the SCG Test due to testing COVID positive.
Khawaja failed to score big runs as an opener alongside David Warner in Hobart, while Head scored a masterful century, his second of the series to help Australia put up 333 on the board in 1st innings. Cummins finished as the series’ highest wicket-taker with an impressive tally of 21 wickets in four matches.
