Afghanistan all-rounder Rashid Khan pulled off a no-look shot for a six during the 1st innings of the 2nd of a 3-match T20I series against Ireland last night at the Sharjah Cricket stadium in UAE. The Afghans are playing as the host nation in the bilateral series, which is their last T20I series before the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 kicks off on June 1. The event will be co-hosted by the USA and West Indies for the first time ever.

The series serves as a good platform of preparation for both the teams who are part of the 20-team event. It becomes specifically important for those players who have not landed an IPL contract. While Ireland only have Joshua Little who will play in the IPL, there are at least 5 Afghan players including Rashid Khan who will play in the upcoming 2024 edition.

Watch – Rashid Khan’s sensational shot for a six

In the final ball of the 18th over (1st innings) bowled by right-arm pacer Barry McCarthy, Rashid Khan successfully pulled off the famous no-look shot straight into the stands. It was a tossed-up, full toss delivery to the pads of Rashid who was waiting for an invitation of this sort as he jabbed that one strongly into the Sachin Tendulkar stand towards leg-side.

That six brought back memories of Rashid Khan thrashing Mumbai Indians bowlers for sixes and fours during a league stage match in IPL 2023 for the Gujarat Titans at the Wankhede stadium. The explosive all-rounder had played out a dazzling knock of 79* off just 32 balls from the number 9 position on match number 57 while chasing down a total of 219.

Even though the Gujarat Titans went on to lose the match by 27 runs, that blistering batting performance from Rashid Khan will forever be remembered as one of the best by a tailender in the league’s history.

His no-look shot last night has garnered plenty of reactions from fans on social media who have showered nothing but love and appreciation. That was the only six from his bat as he scored 3 fours before departing for a score of 25 off 12 at a daunting strike rate of 208.

Thanks to his finishing acts, Afghanistan had eventually set up a target of 153 for the win which Ireland failed to chase down despite a good start from the top-order. Their middle-order collapse saw the visitors lose the match by 10 runs and squander the opportunity to double their lead in the series after winning the first match by 38 runs.

After shining with the bat, Rashid Khan troubled Ireland with the ball

Rashid Khan was in total beast mode last night in Sharjah as after producing a quickfire knock with the bat, the Afghanistan captain made his presence felt with the ball. He scalped the wickets of Lorcan Tucker (10), Harry Tector for a golden duck, George Dockrell (5), and Mark Adair for a 2-ball duck.

His terrific all-round performance is a good sign for his IPL team Gujarat Titans who will begin their IPL 2024 campaign against Mumbai Indians on March 24th at the Narendra Modi stadium.
