Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin became the victim of a horrible run out on Day 2 of the IND vs ENG first Test match. The run-out took place due to Ashwin’s mix-up with his partner Ravindra Jadeja. On the 3rd ball of the 91st over, while punching the ball towards the right of the cover region called for a single to his partner Jadeja.
Responding to the call, Jadeja, denied the single and started to head back to the non-strikers’ end. However, R Ashwin was watching the ball and kept on running. While Jadeja grounded his bat first, Ashwin was run out as it was a simple job for England wicketkeeper Ben Foakes to remove the bails on the striker’s end. R Ashwin was disappointed with the mix-up but at last, had to walk back after scoring one run.

The Indian cricket team lost their seventh wicket for a score of 358 runs and currently lead by 112 runs. India continued their attacking display of cricket on Day 2 as well when Indian batsman KL Rahul first added 36 runs off 67 balls with overnight batsman Shubman Gill (23), whereas he further put up a stand of 64 runs from 106 balls for the fourth wicket. During his partnership with Iyer, Rahul brought up a well-deserved half-century.
After Shreyas Iyer was dismissed for 35 runs, KL Rahul added 65 runs from 74 balls for the fifth wicket. However, Rahul missed out on a well-deserved hundred and had to walk back for a score of 86 runs. Ravindra Jadeja took charge after KL Rahul’s dismissal. Ravindra Jadeja brought up his half-century and added 68 runs for the 6th wicket along with KS Bharat.
While KS Bharat was dismissed for 41 runs, Ravindra Jadeja continued his attack, but soon after Bharat’s departure R Ashwin walked back to the dressing room due to a horrible mix-up. However, with Axar Patel still one of the recognized batsmen on the crease, with Jadeja, India could still reach a powerful first-innings score.
Before India’s attack on Day 2, the hosts showcased tremendous batting and bowling performance on Day 1. England’s ‘bazball’ tactics, totally failed in Hyderabad, and they scored at 3.20 runs per session, which is the slowest run rate since the invention of England’s new playing mindset.
The English batsmen gave away 8 wickets out of 10 to the Indian spinners, in which Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin picked up 3 wickets each whereas Axar Patel picked up 2 wickets.
India also showcased a brilliant aggressive mindset of batting when the hosts added 80 runs in the first 12.2 overs. Young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was the anchor of India’s charge and got out for 80 runs and missed out on a well-deserved hundred.
The five-match series between IND and ENG is crucial for the World Test Championship 2023–2025. India would aim to advance to the finals of the largest ICC Test tournament once more and contribute the requisite points to the WTC 2023–25 standings.
