Dindigul Dragons captain Ravichandran Ashwin has found himself at the center of controversy during the ongoing Tamil Nadu Premier League 2025 (TNPL 2025). Ravichandran Ashwin lost his temper following his dismissal by IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans captain R. Sai Kishore in the fifth match of the TNPL 2025 on Sunday, June 8, at the SNR College Cricket Ground in Coimbatore.

Returning to domestic cricket after a disappointing IPL 2025 season with Chennai Super Kings, Ashwin had been looking to make a strong statement. In the IPL 2025, the seasoned all-rounder managed just 7 wickets and scored 33 runs in 9 matches for the CSK.

The incident unfolded in the 5th over of the Dindigul Dragons' innings after IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans won the toss and opted to bowl. On the fifth ball of the over, Sai Kishore delivered a loopy, well-pitched ball on the leg stump.

Ravichandran Ashwin attempted a sweep but missed, and the ball struck his pads. IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans captain Sai Kishore appealed for LBW, and the on-field umpire — a female official named Kritika — gave Ashwin out. He was absolutely shocked by the decision.

Ashwin believed that the ball had pitched outside the leg stump, so he marched up to the umpire in frustration. The seasoned cricketer, who had already burnt both his DRS reviews, including one on a wide ball, had no option to challenge the call.

So, he tried to convince the umpire, Kritika, that the ball had pitched outside the leg stump, but she stood by her decision. Furious at the decision, Ashwin confronted the umpire on the field and engaged in a heated argument.

After being unable to overturn the decision, Ashwin walked off the field in anger, hitting his pads with his bat in frustration. His animated reaction was captured on camera and is now all over social media across the formats.

Tiruppur crush Dragons by 9 wickets to register first win in TNPL 2025

Meanwhile, Tiruppur had a fantastic outing with the ball as they bowled out the Dindigul Dragons for just 93 runs. Ravichandran Ashwin scored only 18 in a disappointing batting show. Shivam Singh was the top scorer with 30, and Jayant added a late 18 with most of the batters dismissed for a single-digit score, and the team struggled to put up a fighting total.

Esakkimuthu A was the star with the ball for Tiruppur, picking up four wickets, while M. Mathivannan and Sai Kishore also shone with the ball, taking three and two wickets, respectively, against Dthe ragons. Chasing the paltry target, Tiruppur reached 94 in just 11.5 overs with nine wickets in hand.

Tushar Raheja played a solid, unbeaten knock of 65 from just 39 balls. This was Tiruppur's first win of the ongoing TNPL 2025 after losing their opening match against Chepauk Super Gillies. On the other hand, the Dragons had earlier started their campaign with a seven-wicket victory over Lyca Kovai Kings.
