Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) player Shreyanka Patil produced a superhuman effort in the Women Premier League (WPL). The 9th game of the tournament took place between RCB and Mumbai Indians at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
Shreyanka Patil stole the limelight for her team against Mumbai Indians and saved crucial runs for her team. Her effort at the field lifted the crowd up and saw a massive roar for the home team in Royal Challengers Bangalore.
It was during the last ball of the batting powerplay of the second innings when Sophie Devine bowled a slower delivery to Hayley Matthews outside off. The Mumbai batter clubbed it high into the night sky and it was almost certain that the ball would go over the boundary ropes for a big six.
But Shreyanka Patil at the long-on almost pulled off the best catches in the history of the WPL. The RCB player leapt full length to her right and caught the ball before flicking it back into play. As she realized that the momentum was going take her over the ropes, she threw the ball in the nick of time.

Royal Challengers Bangalore didn’t have a great game in the WPL 2024 as they suffered their second consecutive loss in the tournament. Asked to bat first, they had a torrid outing with the bat as they lost wickets in clusters and were left tottering at 71/5 with big batters back in the hut.
It was then that Ellyse Perry stood tall for her side and played a vital hand for the team. She scored an unbeaten 44 runs that kept her team in the hunt. Georgia Wareham (27) supported her well in the end as RCB posted a fighting total of 131 runs on the board.
In the chase, Mumbai Indians were off the flyer. Yastika Bhatia (31) and Hayley Matthews (26) gave them a vital start and added 45 runs for the opening stand. After the duo got out, Nat Sciver-Brunt (27) and Amelia Kerr (40*) took the onus to themselves and guided their team to the comfortable 7-wicket victory.
Something positive to take from today – Smriti Mandhana on Shreyanka Patil’s effort
After the loss, RCB skipper Smriti Mandhana was asked about Shreyanka Patil’s effort on the field. She said that it was a brilliant effort from her teammate and was one of the positives after the loss. She also talked about where her side lacked and praised the effort of Ellyse Perry with the bat. Speaking about the same, she explained:
“It was brilliant. Something positive to take from today. Those sorts of efforts really lift up the team. I think we didn’t really get the start we wanted, and that (losing 4 wickets early) really cost us the game. It was the same wicket we played against Delhi Capitals, we thought 165 was a good total, it wasn’t as good as it was in the last game, but still a good wicket to bat on. Batting first it’s holding a little bit, we tried but couldn’t adjust to the wicket, hopefully, we will learn the lessons and come back strong.
“Having a good start and carrying the momentum is really important in T20 cricket. Also really important to attack the stumps. She (Perry) is definitely a fighter, she wasn’t 100 percent today, but anyone watching wouldn’t have figured that out. She is an excellent athlete and her innings really helped us get to a decent score from that stage (42/4).”
RCB Women has now slipped to No.4 on the points table. They will be next seen in action when they will take on UP Warriorz on 4th March.
