The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the Bangladesh Ministry of Youth and Sports Affairs are trying to resolve the deadlock between India and Bangladesh by hosting a bilateral series. On Tuesday, Aminul Haque, Bangladesh’s State Minister for Youth and Sports, said that the country is looking to host a series against the Men in Blue side in September.
The BCB earlier this year stated that they will be hosting a three-match ODI and T20I series against India during the month of August-September 2026, which was called off due to the political tensions between the two countries; previously, it was called off during the 2025 season as well due to the same reasons.
What happened between India and Bangladesh before the T20 World Cup 2026?
There have been tensions between the two neighbouring countries over the recent past, as the BCCI barred Mustafizur Rahman from the IPL 2026 despite being picked by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) during the auction.
After that, the BCB decided not to travel to India for the T20 World Cup, citing security issues, which saw them being removed from the major tournament as well. Scotland replaced the Bangla Tigers in the tournament. No country except Pakistan supported the Bangla Tigers for their withdrawal from the T20 World Cup 2026.
BCB ready to sell broadcasting rights for India matches
As the BCB put up the sale for the broadcasting and media rights earlier this month for the India series, it showed some signs of the tour happening. BCCI also did not accept the T20I series from Sri Lanka in August, post the two Test matches, which felt like India's tour will finally happen.
As per the reports from Cricbuzz earlier, the BCB also ensured the security of the cricketers and also assured that they will increase the security as well. But the series was in doubt after the BCB placed the media rights auction process on hold despite asking for a tender for the series.

Aminul said the government is strongly focusing on sports diplomacy, with cricket playing a key role due to the country's strong standing in world cricket.
“The current government is giving utmost importance to sports diplomacy. And since cricket is a place of prestige for us, since cricket has a very strong position in our world cricket…we have already spoken to the Indian Embassy, they have also spoken to us and they are all waiting for India to come to Bangladesh in September,” Aminul told reporters at Dhaka on Tuesday.
“After arriving, I think that we will overcome the tension that was there (between the two countries) over a small incident in the past and hopefully our sports diplomacy, our communication, our movement, everything will continue with our neighbouring country,” he added.
Previously, the Sports Ministry of the country formed a committee to investigate the reasons behind T20 World Cup withdrawal. It was stated that another committee was formed to find out whether skipping the major tournament was a diplomatic failure or not, as there was a lot of controversy that surrounded the tournament and post as well.
