Former Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Rohit Sharma was quite furious after the current skipper, Hardik Pandya, threw away his wicket in the ongoing 29th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Sunday, April 13.

The Hardik Pandya-led Mumbai Indians and the Axar Patel-led Delhi Capitals are clashing with each other in a high-profile match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

Pandya was unable to contribute well with the bat for the Mumbai Indians against Delhi Capitals. He came out to bat after Suryakumar Yadav was cleaned up by Kuldeep Yadav in the 14th over.

Suryakumar Yadav walked back to the hut after contributing crucial 40 runs off 28 balls, with 5 fours and 2 sixes. After his dismissal, Mumbai Indians were left reeling at 135/3, and they needed someone like Hardik Pandya to play an explosive knock and finish the innings in style.

However, the MI skipper was unable to do that and got dismissed after scoring just 2 runs off 4 balls in the 15th over. On the first ball of the over, spinner Vipraj Nigam bowled a tossed-up delivery, and Hardik Pandya miscued it towards long-off as he lost his shape and was caught by Tristan Stubbs.

Pandya was quiet after getting out, and Rohit Sharma, who was sitting alongside Deepak Chahar and Suryakumar Yadav, gave an angry reaction seeing the MI skipper fall while playing a reckless shot.

Rohit Sharma fails with bat

The poor form of the former MI skipper Rohit continued as he only managed to score 18 runs in the ongoing match against Delhi Capitals. So far in the Indian Premier League 2025, he has registered scores of 0, 8, 13, 17, and 18.

Speaking ahead of the match on ESPNCricinfo, the former India batter Wasim Jaffer said that the form of Rohit Sharma has been the biggest concern for Mumbai Indians. He elaborated:

"Well, his form is a concern and has been a concern for a while. Not just for Mumbai Indians, but for the Indian team as well, barring that final in the Champions Trophy. But he's a quality player. Hopefully, Mumbai Indians will think that fortune changes quickly because they need some wins desperately to stay in contention for the playoff position. For him and Ryan Rickelton as well, to give that platform for Tilak, Suryakumar Yadav, or even Will Jacks.

"So I feel Rohit Sharma needs to fire. He's hardly had a season of 500, 600 runs. So for a quality of his, they want runs from him desperately."

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma's former Mumbai Indians teammate Piyush Chawla said that even though Rohit's form is a concern, he can bounce back pretty soon because he is a quality player. He said:

"Well, see, form obviously is a concern at the moment. But he's somebody who has scored runs everywhere around the world. So he definitely knows how to get runs. It's just a matter of that one knock, spending those 15 balls at the crease. And I'm sure he'll do that. And once he gets that kind of an inning, so he'll be unstoppable, I feel. So I think it's just a matter of those 15-20 balls. And I definitely see that coming any time soon now."
