Mumbai Indians finally returned to winning ways with a thrilling 12-run win over Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Sunday (April 13).

With just one win from 5 games, Mumbai Indians desperately needed a win, and they finally managed to end up on the right side of the result. After suffering close losses in the previous two games, the five-time champions managed to hold their nerve and pull off a scintillating victory.

Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav steady Mumbai's batting

Batting first, Mumbai Indians posted a big total of 205/5 in the allotted 20 overs. Tilak Varma impressed with the bat again, scoring 59 runs while the likes of Ryan Rickelton (41), Suryakumar Yadav (40), and Naman Dhir (38*) played important knocks too.

Rohit Sharma should not get the credit:

Soon after the Mumbai Indians' thrilling victory, social media was busy crediting Rohit Sharma for the win. The former captain, who was used as an Impact Player once again, came out on the field during the strategic time out and was seen advising his successor, Hardik Pandya.

Many believed that it was Rohit Sharma who was behind the introduction of Karn Sharma in the attack. Karn was used as an Impact Sub, and he made a huge impact by taking three wickets in the middle overs. It was his spell that helped Mumbai Indians claw their way back into the game after Karun Nair's whirlwind 89-run knock put Delhi Capitals on the front foot.

However, former India cricketers Sanjay Manjrekar and Sanjay Bangar weren't happy to see Rohit Sharma getting the credit instead of captain Hardik Pandya for the call.

"The credit behind the victory went to Rohit Sharma, but it should've been Karn Sharma and Hardik Pandya. While Karn was the one executed, Hardik gave instructions," said Sanjay Bangar on Star Sports.

Manjrekar echoed the same sentiments, saying: "There are many people who are there to give suggestions, but it all depends on the person in the middle who has to make the decision. He (Hardik) listened to the advice (from Rohit) is the biggest thing.

"If you give Rohit credit here as well and not Hardik Pandya, it would be the wrong thing. If the suggestion had failed, you would've blamed Hardik. It's quite easy to give suggestions from the outside. The entire credit for this (victory) should go to Hardik Pandya.

Considering how emotional he has been (over Mumbai's recent results), it was an important win for him. It has been quite a difficult journey for him. It would be wrong if social media and others say that the Mumbai Indians won because of Rohit Sharma's suggestions. Hardik Pandya is the captain, and he is the one taking decisions, no matter who is giving suggestions," he added.

Earlier in the game, Rohit failed to impress with the bat once again. Opening the innings, the former Mumbai Indians captain managed to score only 18 runs and would be desperate to turn things around.
