A unique incident happened during the 36th match of Big Bash League (BBL) 2024-25 between Brisbane Heat and Hobart Hurricanes at the Gabba when a fire broke out in the DJ Booth on the third tier of the ground.

The incident happened after four overs in the second innings of the match when Hobart Hurricanes were batting. As a result, the play was delayed for a few minutes. A man used the fire extinguisher and was seen trying to close it out.

Marnus Labuschagne shines for Brisbane Heat

Earlier in the day, Hobart Hurricanes won the toss and elected to field first. The home team Brisbane Heat lost Nathan McSweeney early but the skipper Usman Khawaja gave them a fiery start at the top.

Khawaja scored 23 off just 9 balls with 3 fours and a six but was dismissed by Nathan Ellis. However, Marnus Labuschagne and Matt Renshaw built a strong partnership and put Brisbane Heat on top.

Both scored runs freely and kept ticking the scoreboard. Renshaw was dismissed for 40 off just 25 deliveries with 3 fours and 2 sixes but Labuschagne carried on. He was equally impressive against both pace and spin bowling.

Labuschagne was finally caught by Nathan Ellis off his own bowling in the last ball of the innings. He was dismissed for a brilliant 77 off 44 balls with 8 fours and 2 sixes. Tom Alsop also played a key knock down the order to take Brisbane Heat to 201-6 in 20 overs.

Hobart Hurricanes get off to a flying start

Hobart Hurricanes got off to a flying start in reply. The opening pair of Caleb Jewell and Mitchell Owen gave their team a devastating start and were not even bothered by the slight delay in play due to the fire.

Owen was more aggressive as he slammed a 20-ball-40 with 1 four and 6 sixes. But he was dismissed by Brisbane Heat's left-arm seamer Spencer Johnson. Charlie Wakim arrived at No. 3 but the legspinner Mitchell Swepson got him stumped for a duck.

Nikhil Chaudhary arrived next and built a good partnership with the set opener Caleb Jewell. Chaudhary and Jewell but batting well and Hobart Hurricanes were on track to chase down a daunting score. They needed 59 runs in the last six overs with eight wickets in hand.
