Delhi Capitals captain Shreyas Iyer has started his preparations to return to the second leg of IPL 2021. Shreyas Iyer had to miss the entire first phase of IPL 2021 after sustaining a shoulder injury and was on the sidelines in India’s recently-concluded white-ball tour of Sri Lanka. However, Delhi Capitals posted a video on Twitter, showing Iyer building himself to feature for the remaining matches in the UAE.
Shreyas Iyer suffered the shoulder injury during the first ODI against England in Pune earlier this year. The injury meant that Iyer had to undergo surgery and Rishabh Pant replaced him as the Delhi Capitals’ skipper for IPL 2021. Nevertheless, Pant, the captain, has done a remarkable job as Delhi ended the first phase of IPL 2021 at the top of the table. They won five out of their seven games.
However, Iyer brings plenty of value to the Capitals’ line-up as he played a significant role in reinstating Delhi’s dominance in IPL. The right-handed batsman took over the captaincy from Gautam Gambhir in 2018 and led the franchise to the semi-finals in 2019. The Capitals reached their first IPL final in 2020, albeit coming in a losing cause. In 79 games, the 26-year old has 2200 runs at 31.43 with 16 fifties, keeping a strike rate of 126.07. By performing well in the UAE, the Mumbai-born cricketer can also push his case for the T20 World Cup.
Below is the video of Shreyas Iyer warming up by batting:
