Shubman Gill scores 8 in the semi-final
Gill has been in red-hot form in ODI cricket. He started off his ICC Champions Trophy 2025 campaign on a sensational note as he hit a brilliant match-winning century against the Bangladesh National Cricket Team.
Gill followed it up with a brilliant knock of 46 runs against the Pakistan National Cricket Team, but he failed in the last group stage match against the New Zealand National Cricket Team, scoring 2 runs.
His poor form continued in the high-octane match against the Aussies as fell in the 5th over to Ben Dwarshuis for 8 runs off 11 balls, with one boundary.
On the last ball of the 5th over, pacer Ben Dwarshuis bowled a short-of-length delivery to Shubman Gill, who was struggling in the last few overs.
The ball was angling across, and Gill tried to dab it down towards the third man without any foot movement. However, his hands-dominated attempt led to him dragging the ball back onto the stumps. After his dismissal, Gill looked quite dejected as he got dismissed embarrassingly.

What happened in the last ICC Champions Trophy match between India and Australia?
The previous ICC Champions Trophy match between India and Australia was held in 2009 at the SuperSport Park in Centurion. Batting first, Australia reached a score of 234/4 in 42.3 overs before inclement weather abandoned the game.
Before that, India and Australia had faced off against each other in ICC Champions Trophy 2006 in Mohali. After winning the toss and batting first, India got off to a decent start.
Virender Sehwag smashed a brilliant 65 runs off 90 balls, while Rahul Dravid contributed a well-paced 52 runs. However, despite a solid foundation at 182/3 in the 40th over, India lost momentum in the last 10 overs, managing only 67 runs and ending up with 249/8 on the board.
Chasing the target, Australia started off in an aggressive fashion, with Adam Gilchrist (23) and Shane Watson (50) smashing the Indian bowlers all over the park. Even after Gilchrist fell to Sreesanth, Ricky Ponting (58) and Damien Martyn (73) took control, ensuring there were no hiccups.
Australia easily completed the run-chase in 45.4 overs and crushed India by six wickets to storm into the semi-finals. Damien Martyn was awarded Player of the Match against India for his sensational match-winning knock.
