The Men in Blue bowled out Zimbabwe to 125 to win the final T20I by 42 runs, as Gill lifted his first trophy as India captain on Sunday. As India won the T20I series, Gill collected the trophy and handed it over to the youngsters, continuing a cherished tradition started by the iconic captain, MS Dhoni.

The young Indian skipper handed over the T20I series trophy to the debutants during the post-match celebrations to give them a memory for a lifetime. This tradition is about making sure the debutants remember this moment and understand their value and contributions to the team.

After the trophy presentation ceremony, the Indian debutants, Dhruv Jurel, Abhishek Sharma, Tushar Deshpande, and Riyan Parag, received the trophy from Gill, marking a memorable moment in their budding international careers in Harare on Sunday.

As the young debutants lifted the trophy, smiles and cheers erupted as they posed for the camera. Now, a video of Gill’s heartwarming gesture to continue Dhoni’s tradition is going viral on social media. Notably, the Punjab lad’s captaincy was impressive throughout the T20I series against Zimbabwe.

Watch here how Shubman Gill carries on MS Dhoni's tradition:

Meanwhile, Shubman Gill mentioned that he has learned a lot from playing under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy and has also gained leadership qualities from several other Indian legends, like Dhoni. Now, Gill is aiming to become a permanent player in all three formats for his country.

I really enjoy playing under Rohit Sharma: Shubman Gill

Gill was quoted as saying by the ICC: You can take qualities from Rohit bhai or even Mahi (MS Dhoni) bhai, Virat bhai, Hardik (Pandya) bhai, all of them. All of them have great qualities. I have played the most under Rohit Bhai, so he is someone who I look up to and really enjoy playing under.”

The young Indian captain also hailed his team for their performance in the T20I series in Zimbabwe, saying: “It shows that everyone is hungry and nobody is ready to take it easy. It is a good thing for us. Anyone who got the opportunity grabbed it with both hands.”

At the end, Gill mentioned that from the openers to bowlers to allrounders to spinners, everyone made a mark, and he is confident that the national selectors have now seen everything, and it is up to them to name the squad for the next T20I and ODI series in Sri Lanka.
