In a heartening continuation of a cherished tradition in Indian cricket, Suryakumar Yadav, the new T20I captain of the Indian cricket team, followed in the footsteps of cricketing legends MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma after winning the T20I series against Sri Lanka on July 30 in Kandy.

Dhoni, one of the most successful captains of the world the game has ever seen, had started the unique tradition of handing over the trophies to the new generation of Indian cricketers. This ritual embraces the future, reinforcing the bond between generations of cricketers.

After Dhoni, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma also continued the tradition started by Dhoni, who was known for his calm demeanor and tactical acumen and led India to 2007 T20 World Cup, 2011 ODI World Cup, and 2013 Champions Trophy titles during his tenure as the Indian skipper.

Now, Suryakumar, who won his first trophy as India’s full-time T20I captain, followed in the footsteps of the former Indian captains Dhoni, Virat, and Rohit, and continued the tradition by handing over the trophy to the youngsters after winning the T20I series 3-0 against Sri Lanka on Tuesday in Kandy.

As the Indian cricket team assembled for the trophy celebration, captain Suryakumar handed the cup to young all-rounder Riyan Parag and batter Rinku Singh in a gesture of respect for their efforts and achievements as a team in Sri Lanka. After collecting the trophy, Suryakumar went straight to Riyan and Rinku to offer him the opportunity to cherish life.

This tradition encourages the new generation to build upon the legacy. Now, the video of the Indian skipper’s heartwarming gesture is going viral on social media, with many praising Suryakumar for continuing the tradition started by the legendary Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dhoni.

Meanwhile, Suryakumar and Rinku bowled the last two overs in the third and final T20I against Sri Lanka in Kandy, and both have taken two wickets each to play a major role in tying the match. Later, the Indian skipper scored three runs in the first ball to record a thrilling win over the Islanders.

We planned it in such a fun way: Riyan Parag on bowling Rinku Singh, Suryakumar Yadav

With this win, the Men in Blue cleaned sweep the three-match T20I series in Sri Lanka. After the match, Parag opened up about the plans behind that bold move, where Suryakumar and Rinku rolled their hand and got success with the ball.

Riyan Parag said, “It was fun. And that's why we actually didn't feel the nerves. We planned it in such a fun way; it was very spontaneous, with Rinku Bhai bowling the 19th over. I was pretty sure Siraj Bhai was going to bowl the last over, but then Surya Bhai just came on to bowl and got it to a super over.

So, I think everyone was pretty chill. We were having fun. That's one of our mottos as well. We are being ruthless, but we have fun and enjoy the game, and that's why we were able to pull this off today.”
