Young England batsman Ollie Pope would have realized on the first day of the fourth Test at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad that when you are not in the best of form, you find freakish ways to get out.
And, that is exactly what happened with Ollie Pope as his impressive knock of 87-ball 29 came to a disappointing end in the post-Tea session.
It all happened during the 62nd over of England’s innings when Ravichandran Ashwin sowed seeds of doubt in Ollie Pope’s mind by troubling him with a sharp turn on the first delivery followed by a straighter one.
The dismissal not only brought an end to an excellent 45-run-stand between Ollie Pope and Dan Lawrence but it also opened the floodgates for Team India as Ravichandran Ashwin and Axar Patel weaved their magic to polish off England’s lower-order.
Ashwin soon dismissed Ben Foakes, who edged one straight to Ajinkya Rahane at first slip while Axar Patel knocked over a dangerous-looking Dan Lawrence, who in an attempt to smash the off-spinner over his head missed the ball altogether and got stumped. Dom Bess, on the other hand, was trapped plumb in front as England slipped from 6-166 to 9-189.
