Vignesh Puthur, on Friday (April 5), once again showed why he is being regarded so highly as he gave Mumbai Indians a big breakthrough in their ongoing match with Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Cricket Stadium.
MI captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and opted to bowl first. However, his decision was not backed by his bowlers early on as Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram gave LSG a flying start. Marsh was the one who scored the majority of the runs while Markram played the role of the second fiddle.
The LSG openers did not let MI bowlers take any wicket in the powerplay. At the end of the sixth over, LSG had raced away to 69 runs for no loss. Of those 69 runs, Marsh scored 60 runs alone.
Immediately after the powerplay, Pandya handed the ball to Vignesh Puthur and the youngster did not disappoint. He made an instant impact and dismissed Marsh in his very first over by taking a sharp catch off his bowling.

The left-arm spinner bowled a tossed-up delivery and Marsh wanted to clip it towards the leg side. However, the Australia star ended up getting a leading edge as the ball went towards the bowler. At first, it looked like the ball would drop just in front of Vignesh Puthur.
However, the youngster showed remarkable reflexes as he reacted quickly and caught the ball with a diving effort. Marsh departed after scoring 60 runs with the help of nine fours and two sixes.

Talking about the game, LSG were on 123/3 after 13 overs at the time of writing this report. Ayush Badoni and Aiden Markram were batting in the middle for the home side.
Earlier in the game, Nicholas Pooran and Rishabh Pant failed to get going with the bat. Pooran started positively and hit a four and a six but did not last long. He was dismissed for 12 by Pandya. On the other hand, Pant's disastrous campaign with the bat continued as the LSG captain departed for 2 runs off 6 balls. He was dismissed by Pandya as well.
