Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), on Thursday (May 29), thrashed Punjab Kings (PBKS) by 8 wickets in the first qualifier to storm into the final of the ongoing IPL 2025.
The Rajat Patidar-led side completely outplayed PBKS to make the cut for the final. Right from the toss till the end of the match, everything fell in place for RCB. Patidar's decision to bowl first after winning the toss was proven right by the bowlers as RCB bowled out PBKS for a paltry total of 101 runs in just 14.1 overs.
PBKS lost four wickets inside the powerplay and just could not recover after that. At one stage, they were reeling at 60/7, and even the 100-run mark looked like a distant dream. However, they managed to cross the 100-run mark and eventually finished their innings on 101 runs.
Marcus Stoinis (26) was the only batter to cross the 20-run mark as eight PBKS players could not even reach double digits. For RCB, Josh Hazlewood and Suyash Sharma picked up 3 wickets each.
With the bat, RCB chased down the total in just 10 overs by losing 2 wickets. Phil Salt led the charge with the bat for RCB, smashing an unbeaten 56 runs off just 27 balls.

As the RCB players celebrated the win in the dugout, Virat Kohli looked towards the stands where Anushka was seen cheering passionately. The former India skipper was then seen raising a single finger, possibly showing that RCB are now just one win away from winning the IPL trophy.

RCB will be playing the IPL final for the first time since 2016. They have played three finals so far and have lost all of them. The Bengaluru-based outfit has performed very consistently this season and will be confident of winning the final as well to end the long wait for the maiden IPL trophy.
On the other hand, PBKS will now be facing the winner of the Eliminator between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans in the second qualifier for a place in the final. The Eliminator is scheduled to be played on Friday (May 30), while the second qualifier will be played on Sunday (June 1).
