Baroda youngster Shashwat Rawat showed his quick reflexes on the first day of the Duleep Trophy 2024 for the big wicket of Yashasvi Jaiswal. Rawat, fielding as a substitute for India A, was standing at backward point during the 22nd over of the first innings of India B.

Yashasvi Jaiswal was well set in the crease and looking good for a big one. But fast bowler Khaleel Ahmed had other ideas. The left-arm seamer bowled a short and wide ball outside off stump and Jaiswal tried to keep the ball down through his wrists.

However, he wasn't able to keep the ball down and went low to Shashwat Rawat at backward point. The fielder was able to react quickly and got down in time to complete a low and sharp catch. It wasn't a wicket-taking delivery by any means but Rawat's good catch deserves all the credit.

Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed for 30 off 59 balls which included 6 fours. However, it wasn't a typical Yashasvi Jaiswal innings and he struggled with timing for the most part. Usually known to play an aggressive brand of cricket, Jaiswal looked to bide his time but was eventually dismissed in the end.

Musheer Khan keeps India B in the match

Earlier in the day, India A won the toss and elected to field first. India B got off to a sedate start but soon lost their captain Abhimanyu Easwaran. Talented allrounder Musheer Khan came in at No. 3 but India B lost Jaiswal. However, brothers Sarfaraz and Musheer ensured India B went into lunch without losing any further wickets.

Things started to change after lunch as Sarfaraz Khan was dismissed cheaply by Avesh Khan. Fast bowler Akash Deep bowled a fantastic post-lunch spell as he picked up the wickets of Rishabh Pant and Nitish Kumar Reddy in a span of two deliveries. Pant tried to launch Akash over mid-on but Shubman Gill took a fantastic catch running backward from mid-off.

In the next ball, Nitish Kumar Reddy was bowled off a cracker of a delivery by Akash Deep. Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, Musheer Khan kept batting at one end and was on his way to a well-deserved hundred.

The opening round of the Duleep Trophy will be crucial as a no. of Indian international players are making their appearance in the competition. The selection for the home series against Bangladesh will be done after the first round of the Duleep Trophy.
