Akash Deep is gradually turning out to be a nightmare for Shadman Islam, as the Bangladesh opener has become the bunny of the Indian pacer in both innings in the ongoing second and final Test between India and Bangladesh at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur.
After dismissing Islam for 24 runs off 36 balls in the first inning, Akash struck again and sent the well-set Bangladesh opener back to the pavilion in the second inning on Day 5 at Green Park.
Shadman Islam falls to Akash Deep for the second time in the Kanpur Test as Yashasvi Jaiswal grabs a fine catch
However, a lot more credit for this big wicket must go to the Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, who is now turning out to be one of the safest fielders for the team. Shadman, who had looked comfortable with a solid 50 off 101 balls, fell victim to a sharp delivery from Akash that cost Bangladesh dearly in the ongoing match against India in Kanpur.
It was a loose shot from Shadman that led to his downfall. Akash delivered a ball slightly fuller than a good length, just outside off-stump. Tempted by the line, Shadman went for an expansive drive but failed to anticipate the ball’s subtle movement away.
The shot resulted in a thick outside edge that flew to the gully, where Jaiswal displayed quick reflexes to complete a sharp, low catch with both hands. It was a game-changing wicket for Team India.

Earlier in the match, Akash delivered a crucial blow by trapping Shadman leg-before-wicket after a smart review in the first inning at the Green Park Stadium. He was confident in his appeal and was quick to signal for a review when the umpire initially turned down his appeal.
The ball, angled in from around the wicket, caught Shadman rooted to his crease as he missed the straight delivery, which struck him on the pad. Given the nature of the Kanpur surface, height wasn’t a concern, and the angle ensured the ball was heading towards the leg stump.
Bangladesh in deep trouble against India in Kanpur Test
However, the original decision surprised the Indian players, but they quickly gathered around Akash when the review confirmed the LBW wicket of the Bangladesh opener. Shadman had to walk back after another timely breakthrough from the Indian pacer in the ongoing Kanpur Test.
Currently, Bangladesh cricket team is in big trouble, as they have already eight wickets for just 118 runs in their innings against India. With the current score being 126/8, the Tigers are leading by just 74 runs as the hosts declared their first inning at 285/9 on Day 4 in Kanpur.
Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja starred with the ball on Day 5, taking each three wickets so far in the ongoing second and final Test against Bangladesh.
Now, India needs two wickets to finish Bangladesh’s innings, as they are desperate to chase down the expected paltry target as soon as possible at the Green Park to earn the very crucial ICC World Test Championship points and bolster their chances to make it to the WTC Final.
