On the first day of the Boxing Day Test between New Zealand and Pakistan in Mount Maunganui, Yasir Shah was caught abusing in frustration after being unable to pick the wicket of Henry Nicholls.

This incident was recorded in the 77th over of the New Zealand innings. After losing 3 wickets, Kane Williamson and Henry Nicholls stitched a partnership of 64 runs.

On the first ball of the over, Nicholls missed his cut shot. Yasir Shah while returning to his bowling mark, in frustration yelled, “Out ho jaa bhootni ke” which roughly translates to- “Get out man.”

At that time, the left-hander was batting at 27 from 61 balls and on the non-striker end, Williamson was unbeaten on 84- which led to the leg-spinner being annoyed.

New Zealand on top after Day 1; Yasir Shah goes wicketless

Mohammad Rizwan, the stand-in captain for the injured Babar Azam, won the toss and elected to bowl first on a lush green surface. The bowlers vindicated Rizwan’s decision as Shaheen Afridi struck twice to remove both the openers leaving the hosts tottering at 13/2.

However, New Zealand’s two senior batsmen, Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor bailed the team out from the spot of a collapse with a 120 run partnership batting the entire second session.

Afridi returned after tea to get rid of Taylor on 70. Henry Nicholls joined hands with his skipper, and both took New Zealand home unscathed after Taylor’s dismissal. The duo added 89 runs in the next 30 overs as the Black Caps end Day 1 at the score of 222/3. Skipper, Kane Williamson is inching towards his 23rd Test hundred as he remained unbeaten on 94 with Nicholls at 42*.

From 6 bowlers used by Rizwan, only Afridi was amongst wickets. Mohammad Abbas and Faheem Ashraf bowled with high accuracy- Abbas had a brilliant economy of 1.2, and Ashraf gave 2.3 runs per over.

However, Naseem Shah and Yasir Shah weren’t at their best. Not only they failed to pick any wicket, but also were erratic in their lines and gave away runs. Yasir, in particular, was too short or too full at times.
