Cricket Australia (CA) Chief Executive Nick Hockley has confirmed that all the International male and female cricketers have been fully vaccinated.

Australia has become the first team to declare itself as fully vaccinated. All the professional players have already had the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine. The International players were fully vaccinated by September and 97% of the domestic players have already received a second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

Cricket Australia Chief Executive Nick Hockley has said: “Everyone is showing great leadership. We are 100% fully vaccinated for both male and female international players. And then we are at 100% the first dose for our domestic playing group.

The Cricket Australia (CA) Chief Executive Nick Hockley further added that they have been running an education program and their medical advisor have been running workshop sessions for the players and staff. He said:

There has been a big education program, our medical advisors have run workshop sessions for staff and players. It’s symptomatic of the whole last 18 months.”

Hockley also said that he was thankful that they did not have to introduce vaccine mandates for the professionals and the idea of making vaccination mandatory was “almost irrelevant” looking at the good rate of vaccination.

Meanwhile, Australian Cricketers Association Chief Executive Todd Greenberg has stated that he is proud and delighted to see that players, “clearly understood their responsibility”.

Notably, Victoria was the first state which had introduced vaccine mandates for athletes in October. Overall Australia’s vaccination program has been going very smooth as close to 90% of eligible people have been fully vaccinated in New South Wales and 95% in Canberra.
