Former England captain Michael Vaughan expressed his concerns over Ashes missing some big names due to Australia’s travel issues and he wanted the series to be at its best. Australia has been reluctant to the England cricket team to allow players with their families due to the Covid-19 issues.

This could possibly mean that a lot of England players could miss out on the tour to spend time with their families on the eve of Christmas and New Year. Ashes, has been one of the most talked-about series for a long time and England and Australia have shared great memories of it from the time, the game was invented for the first time. The five- match-series is set to start on December 8 and the last test is scheduled to take place on January 14.

“Ashes Have To Be Delayed By A Year” –  Michael Vaughan

Michael Vaughan mentioned that the current situation with Australia not allowing families could be a big boon to the England team to delay the series by a year instead of playing with an understrength England team. He added that the Ashes would become a farcical series without the full-strength England team.

“If this situation is not sorted out quickly and the England players allowed to be joined in Australia by their families then the Ashes have to be delayed by a year,”

“If not, it would be a farcical series against an understrength England team.” Vaughan wrote

Michael Vaughan Feels Ashes Should Be Competitive

Michael Vaughan mentioned that the Ashes should be the best of teams taking on each other and not the second strengths squad coming into the fray. He added that he would have sympathy for players who opt out of the series to be with their families and added that he wouldn’t mind if Ashes is delayed by a year to see the full competitive sides.

“The Ashes must be the best against the best.”

“I have absolute sympathy with any player thinking of not going and I would back them all the way if they pulled out because they cannot be with their families at Christmas and New Year,”

“We need the Ashes. But we need the series to be fair and competitive” Vaughan added
