Fans on Twitter reacted after Sri Lanka made a strong statement in the ongoing three-match ODI series against India. They defeated the visitors by 32 runs in the second game of the series which took place at the R.Premadasa Stadium Colombo on Sunday.

Opting to bat, Sri Lanka were off to the worst possible start with the bat as they lost Pathum Nissanka on the first ball of the innings. But after that, Avishka Fernando (40) and Kusal Mendis (30) brought the team back into the game with their 74-run partnership for the second wicket.

Skipper Charith Asalanka (25) came up with a fighting knock but Indian spinners made a sensational comeback and tilted the game, leaving Sri Lanka under pressure 136 for six. With the team losing quick wickets, Dunith Wellalage (39) and Kamindu Mendis (40) joined hands and bailed the team out of trouble.

The Wellalage-Mendis duo added 72 runs and took the team to a fighting total. Sri Lanka ended with a total of 240 for nine, for India Washington Sundar was the pick of the bowlers with his figures of three for 30 while Kuldeep Yadav also bagged two scalps.

In the chase, India yet again had a brutal start, credit to skipper Rohit Sharma (64). The opening batter slammed a half-century in just 29 balls and put Sri Lanka on the back foot. Vice-captain Shubman Gill (35) supported him well as India had a solid 97 runs opening partnership.

However, the introduction of Jeffrey Vandersey changed the entire complexion of the game. The wrist-spinner picked six wickets in a flash and left India tottering at 147 for seven. Axar Patel (44) came up with a fighting effort but his wicket tilted the game in Sri Lanka’s favor. The hosts bundled out the opposition for 208 to win the game by 32 runs and go 1-0 in the series.
