The West Indies have announced their playing XI for the first Test of the two-match series against South Africa at home, starting on August 7.
Batsman Keacy Carty will make his debut in the longest format for the Windies during the first Test, which is scheduled to be played in Trinidad from August 7-11.
The West Indies are heading into their Test series against South Africa after a 3-0 series defeat in England. Joshua Da Silva, Alick Athanaze, Kavem Hodge, and Jayden Seales showed promise in the last series.
The Windies will hope to deliver strong performances and secure victories against the South African team.
Keacy Carty has played 22 ODI matches for the Windies team since his debut in 2022. He has scored 578 runs at an average of 34, with a best score of 88.
In first-class cricket, he has scored 2,360 runs in 59 matches at an average of 28.09, with a best score of 127. He is a part-time right-arm medium pacer.
West Indies Announce Playing XI For First Test vs South Africa
The home team has selected two specialist spinners, Jomel Warrican, and Gudakesh Motie, for the opening Test against South Africa. Captain Kraigg Brathwaite and Mikyle Louis are expected to open the batting during the series opener.
Veteran pacer Kemar Roach returns to lead the bowling attack after missing the series against England due to a knee injury.
Young pacer Jayden Seales will share the new ball, with Jason Holder set to play as the third seamer. Fast bowler Alzarri Joseph was rested for the series to manage his workload.

West Indies Last Beat South Africa In Test Match 2007
The Windies have a disappointing record against South Africa in the longer format of the game.
The two teams have played 32 Test matches against each other since 1992. South Africa has secured 22 wins, while the Caribbeans have managed to emerge victorious on 3 occasions. Seven Test matches ended in a draw.
The Caribbeans last defeated South Africa in 2007 in Gqeberha. Shivnarine Chanderpaul scored 104 runs in the first innings.
The Caribbeans set a target of 389 runs against Graeme Smith and Co. Fast bowlers Fidel Edwards and Jerome Taylor each took 3 wickets, helping the Windies to a 128-run victory.
