Pakistan Cricket Team has been dealt with a severe blow ahead of the 2nd and 3rd T20I against the West Indies as young batsman Azam Khan has been ruled out due to a head injury.

Azam Khan, the son of former Pakistan skipper Moin Khan, made his T20I debut earlier this month, and he was publically backed by head coach Misbah-ul-Haq ahead of the West Indies T20Is.

Khan was included in the starting XI for the first T20I in Barbados but he didn’t get a chance to showcase his talent as the game was eventually abandoned due to persistent rain.

Azam suffered a head injury during the practice session on Friday and according to a statement released by the PCB, a neurosurgeon has advised that the young batter should remain under observation for 24 hours and he will once again be assessed on Monday (August 02).

That means Azam Khan is set to miss at least a couple of T20Is. The third and fourth matches of the series are scheduled to take place on August 01 and 03 respectively.

“A neurosurgeon has recommended an observation period of 24 hours. He will then be reassessed on Monday,” the PCB confirmed in a statement.

Meanwhile, Pakistan will lock horns with the West Indies in the second T20I in Guyana on Saturday.

The series is now effectively a three-match rubber with the first T20I in Barbados getting abandoned due to rain.

The first match was reduced to a 9-over-a-side affair thanks to inclement weather. West Indies batted first and thanks to a cameo from skipper Kieron Pollard (22* off 9) posted 5/85.

Hasan Ali (2/11 in two overs) was the pick of the bowlers for Pakistan.

However, before Pakistan batsmen could stroll out to bat, rain once again played spoilsport and the game was eventually called off.

Both sides would be looking to take an early lead in the three-match series on Saturday.
